It is generally agreed that the story of the death of Zacharias (chs. xxii-xxiv) does not properly belong to the text. But she wept bitterly, saying: As the Lord my God liveth I am pure before him and I know not a man. Aber sie weinte bitterlich, nämlich: Wie der Herr, mein Gott lebt Ich bin rein vor ihm, und ich weiß nicht, ein Mann zu sein.
4 And the priest said unto Joseph: Wherefore hast thou done this? 4 Und der Priester sprach zu Joseph: Darum hast du das getan? And Joseph said: As the Lord my God liveth I am pure as concerning her. And the priest said: Bear no false witness but speak the truth: thou hast married her by stealth and hast not declared it unto the children of Israel, and hast not bowed thine head under the mighty hand that thy seed should be blessed. 3 And Zacharias said: I am a martyr of God if thou sheddest my blood: for my spirit the Lord shah receive, because thou sheddest innocent blood in the fore-court of the temple of the Lord. 3 Und Zacharias sprach: «Ich bin ein Gott der Märtyrer, wenn du mein Blut sheddest: für meinen Geist des Herrn Schah erhalten, weil du sheddest unschuldigen Blut in den Vordergrund-Gericht in den Tempel des Herrn.
