Contributing Author Information

Various of the articles contained in BELIEVE were authored by these scholars. The authors are listed here in alphabetical order. There are currently approximately 325 scholars in this list.

We apologize that some of the authors of the many articles in BELIEVE are not included here, and that some articles do not even have a credited author, which generally meant that the author was never indicated in the source document.

When BELIEVE was first being assembled, beginning in 1992, it had very modest goals of aiding in the Christian Faith of a small number of local people, in being handed out on computer floppy disks. We asked for and received copyright authorizations to use a majority of the articles now in BELIEVE around that time. Rarely have we been in contact with the actual authors, but rather companies that were either the publishers or that owned the rights, provided those many authorizations. At that time, in 1992 and 1993, the rights for a large number of these included articles were owned by Ellis Enterprises of Oklahoma City. They gave us the permission to use those articles in our BELIEVE project. Part of our request, which was not really required or expected, involved our mentioning that the BELIEVE project would never encourage donations, contributions or any other sources of income, to make clear that we would never financially profit from having those works within BELIEVE.

As of late 2007, after more than fifteen years of BELIEVE, the grand total gross income of BELIEVE is still exactly zero! Again, such a situation was nor required in those agreements, but we felt that it would be ethically and morally wrong to profit in any way related to the presence of the works of those authors.

After the World Wide Web arose in 1994, and we put BELIEVE on the 'Net in 1997, we still had rather modest expectations. We had no idea that not long after that, students and researchers would be considering BELIEVE as a research resource! Knowing all the documentation required for citations of such articles, we have begun to try to re-construct all of our research in the early 1990s, and the (incomplete) author list below is an effort in that direction. It seems likely that it may be years before we can reconstruct the entire documentation for all of the 2,000+ articles that are currently included in BELIEVE. Sorry! At the moment, we don't know how to provide additional citation documentation. It will appear in the individual pages as we re-discover it.

Many people find great value in articles they find in BELIEVE, and they ask us about potential uses and potential Copyright infringements. We are not really sure about those issues! Our position so far has been the following:

We have been asked about situations that are everywhere along a spectrum between these two relatively clear situations. The first choice is obviously to contact either the author or publisher, and if that is not possible, a second choice would be to reflect on what the Lord would consider acceptable, ethical, and right. We trust in the Holy Spirit to provide necessary guidance on such matters.
