Fatima (daughter of Muhammad)General Information{fat'-i-muh} Fatima, c.616-33, was the only daughter of the Prophet Muhammad, the wife of Ali, and in Muslim tradition, the ancestor of the Fatimid caliphs and of the imams of the Shiite branch of Islam. She is revered by all Muslims and is the subject of many legends; the Shiites often show her a devotion equivalent to that accorded the Virgin Mary in Christianity.

Fatima (606?-632?), daughter of Muhammad by his first wife, Khadija, and the only child of Muhammad to bear offspring. She married the caliph Ali, Muhammad's cousin, and from Ali and Fatima are supposedly descended the Fatimids, a medieval caliphate of northern Africa.
Unfortunately, we are not aware of any scholarly texts on this subject which have yet been translated into English. We know that a number of Arabic scholars have written wonderful texts in Arabic, and look for the day when we will be able to add higher quality texts to this presentation.
