Maybe an Odd Diet Method
Even I admit that this sounds questionable. As a Research
Scientist (a Physicist) I would normally find something like this
as worth a smile! But it seems worth letting people know about!
As a small child, I was apparently not taught how to eat very
correctly! In general, I tended to GULP food I guess. A direct
consequence of that is that I swallowed a lot of air as well as
food.
I never really thought much about that, especially since such a
thing NEVER comes up in conversation! How or why would anyone
even think about such a thing? I suppose that only a Research
Physicist might!
But consider this: I can now see two very direct results of
that.
- (1) By swallowing quite a bit of air, I suspect that my stomach
got the sensation that it was full more quickly, even though only
part of its contents was actual food! It seems logical that I might
have therefore eaten less food than if all that air was not inside
my stomach. As it is, I have generally been fairly skinny most of
my life, while truly HATING the idea of working out or running or all
that stuff. Many people would say that I have a high metabolism,
and that may be true, but no one seems to really know what that means.
What if it ACTUALLY happens to be related to whether kids learn how
to eat properly? I guess I eat more like a dog does, in somewhat
gulping down food, and I am assuming that dogs must get a lot of
air inside their stomachs, too!
- OK. Assuming that there is a lot of air in my stomach, doesn't
it seem that some different types of digestion might occur? In general,
there is little air/oxygen in people's stomachs and intestines, and
the digestion processes are generally what is called anaerobic, lacking
air. As a scientist, I happen to know that anaerobic processes tend
to be less efficient than when enough air is present, what is called
aerobic. So, what if the presence of all that extra air in my stomach
might contribute toward permitting a certain amount of aerobic
decomposition to occur, as well as the standard anaerobic? Seems to
me that digestion might be more complete???
In biochemistry, it is well known that not only is aerobic
decomposition more efficient than anaerobic, it also can decompose
many more materials. Could this result in the body being better able
to decompose some materials that might otherwise be slightly harmful
to us?
Well, I don't know!
This could be the reasoning of a Physicist, often known for thinking
in strange ways! Still, the logic seems moderately credible!
SO! What might this mean? I am not sure. But ANYONE can easily
swallow air! Open your mouth and fill it with some air, and then swallow
as though you had a big chunk of hamburger in your mouth! You can even
tell when you actually gulp down some air, as you can feel it in your
throat.
I see zero negative consequences of this (with the possible exception of
having some extra intestinal gas inside you to get rid of somehow!)
So even if it turns out not to have any actual benefit, I don't really
see any reason to have to avoid trying it. Except maybe not in front
of your friends or Boss!
