But since in this very age when the salutary effectiveness of the apostolic office is most especially needed, not a few are to be found who disparage its authority, we judge it absolutely necessary to affirm solemnly the prerogative which the only-begotten Son of God was pleased to attach to the supreme pastoral office.Mais puisque dans cet âge même où l'efficacité salutaire de la charge apostolique est tout particulièrement nécessaire, non pas quelques-uns se trouvent qui dénigrent son autorité, nous jugeons qu'il est absolument nécessaire d'affirmer solennellement la prérogative que le Fils unique de Dieu a été heureux de joindre à la charge pastorale suprême.

       • by the divine assistance promised to him in blessed Peter,par l'assistance divine promise à lui bienheureux Pierre,
     • that infallibility which the divine Redeemer willed his church to enjoy in defining doctrine concerning faith or morals.que l'infaillibilité dont le divin Rédempteur a voulu son Eglise pour profiter de la foi dans la définition de la doctrine concernant la ou les bonnes moeurs.
     • Therefore , such definitions of the Roman pontiff are of themselves, and not by the consent of the church, irreformable.Par conséquent, ces définitions du Pontife romain sont d'eux-mêmes, et non par le consentement de l'Eglise, irréformables.

   So then, should anyone, which God forbid, have the temerity to reject this definition of ours: let him be anathema .Alors, si quelqu'un, que Dieu ne plaise, avoir la témérité de rejeter cette définition de la nôtre: qu'il soit anathème.
