Martin Luther wrote his Small Catechism, a simple manual of instruction in the Christian faith, in 1529 after one of the great disappointments of his life. Much of the influence of Lutheranism around the world can be traced to the success of this catechism in expressing the profound truths of the faith in a language that all can understand. It is the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, under the bread and wine, for us Christians to eat and to drink, instituted by Christ Himself.
